Business insurance sits close to your money and your legal obligations. If you are going to act on something you read here, you deserve to know where it came from and who checked it. This page is that answer.
Where our facts come from
Anything on this site that states a legal requirement, a threshold, a compensation limit or a deadline is taken from the responsible authority — the Ministry of Manpower for work injury and foreign worker cover, the Monetary Authority of Singapore for licensing and conduct, the Personal Data Protection Commission for data protection, the Land Transport Authority for motor. We cite the authority in the text so you can check it yourself.
Where we cannot verify a figure to that standard, we do not publish a number. You will see wording like “confirm the current requirement with MOM” instead of a precise-sounding figure we cannot stand behind. That is deliberate, and it is why some of our pages are vaguer than competitors' — an invented number that reads authoritatively is the most damaging thing a site like this can do.
How we talk about costs
Premium figures on this site are indicative ranges, always labelled as such. Insurance is priced on your specific risk — headcount, trade, claims history, sums insured — so no website can tell you what you will pay. We publish ranges to help you sanity-check a quote and budget roughly, not to substitute for one.
Who reviews it
Pages are drafted by our editorial team and, where a technical reviewer is appointed, checked by a licensed insurance intermediary for accuracy of cover descriptions. Where a page has been reviewed, the reviewer is named at the top of it with their credentials, and you can see who they are on our About page. Where no reviewer is named, the page has not yet been through that check — treat it as general information.
A reviewer checks technical accuracy. They do not write the pages, and their review is not advice on your situation.
How often we update
Singapore's requirements change — compensation limits are revised, thresholds move, new obligations appear. We review pages covering compulsory cover at least annually, and immediately when we become aware of a change. Guides carry a last-updated date.
If you are reading a page months after that date and acting on a legal requirement, check the current position with the authority named on the page. We would rather tell you that than have you assume a page is fresh.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us at dpo@smeinsurance.com.sg and we will check it. Where we have published a material error we correct the page and note what changed. We do not quietly delete mistakes.
How we make money, and what that means for what you read
Licensed insurance professionals pay us for enquiries we pass to them. That is our only revenue from this site. It has two consequences you should know about.
First, we have an incentive for you to submit an enquiry, which is why there is a form on nearly every page. Second, and more importantly, we have no incentive to steer you toward any particular insurer or product — we are not paid differently depending on what you buy, and we do not name or rank insurers anywhere on this site. Where we tell you a cover is probably unnecessary for your business, that is us costing ourselves a lead, and you should read it that way.
We are not an insurer, broker, agent or financial adviser, and we are not licensed by MAS. We do not advise on, arrange or sell insurance.
What we will not publish
- Invented figures, deadlines or thresholds we cannot source to an authority.
- Reviews, testimonials or case studies from people who do not exist.
- Named or ranked insurers and products — we are not licensed to recommend them.
- Claims that any specific policy will cover your specific situation. Only your policy wording and a licensed professional can tell you that.
